Due to cost-effectiveness, more and more products are purchased online from B2C sites and delivered to buyers via shipping services. However, due to health concerns like pandemics, physical contact between delivery personnel and recipients is being avoided. Additionally, buyers are often unable to wait at home for the delivery person. On the other hand, delivery personnel are hesitant to enter apartment buildings and deliver packages door-to-door. This creates problems for both the recipient and the shipping company during the delivery process.

The Need:

A system is needed that allows packages to be delivered without physical contact with the recipient, and without the need to check if the recipient is at home.

The Solution:

A cargo locker system will be installed at the entrance of apartment complexes or residential sites, preferably in a location that is monitored by cameras or visible to security personnel. Delivery personnel will drop off packages into the locker, and the recipient can retrieve their package by entering a code at the locker.

Cargo Locker Design:

The cargo locker will have compartments corresponding to one-third of the number of apartments in the building, with the following compartment sizes:

  • 10% Large compartments: 40cm x 50cm x 60cm
  • 20% Medium compartments: 30cm x 40cm x 50cm
  • 30% Small compartments: 20cm x 30cm x 40cm
  • 40% Extra-small compartments: 10cm x 20cm x 30cm

Products:

Five different locker sizes will be produced:

  1. 1 compartment (for standalone houses, mansions, and villas)
  2. 10 compartments (for 30-apartment buildings or plazas)
  3. 20 compartments (for 60-apartment buildings or plazas)
  4. 30 compartments (for 90-apartment buildings or plazas)
  5. 40 compartments (for 120-apartment buildings or plazas)

For larger residential areas, multiple units will be used. The lockers will be IP65-rated for water and dust resistance. Power will be supplied from the building, and our team will handle installation.

Capacity will be monitored from a central system, and when needed, a larger locker unit will be installed while the old one is removed for cleaning and repurposing elsewhere. Any malfunctions will be detected by the central system, and field technicians will handle repairs.

Leasing and Financing:

The cargo lockers can be leased to apartment managements with the first month free, and advertising space on the locker doors can be used to maximize revenue. Each lease agreement can be used as the basis for a financing project with banks. Direct sales would be difficult due to the likelihood of competitors creating imitations quickly.

Process:

  1. Development:
    • Metal construction
    • Keypad and card panel
    • Server software
    • Mobile app for delivery personnel
    • API for integration with shipping software
  2. Branding and Patent Registration
  3. Pilot Testing
  4. Fine-tuning
  5. Financing Agreement with Bank
  6. Agreements with Shipping Companies
  7. Setup of Call Center, Website, and Social Media Support
  8. Advertising
  9. Agreements with Apartment Complexes and Sites
  10. Manufacturing
  11. Distribution and Installation
  12. Training for Delivery Personnel
  13. Gathering Feedback for Product Improvement
  14. Establishing a Field Service System for Product Tracking and Support

Current Scenario:

  • The delivery person arrives, but the recipient is not at home.
  • The recipient cannot afford to leave work just to wait for a package at home.
  • The delivery person calls the recipient to check if they are home, but the recipient is at work.
  • The delivery person says, “I brought the package, but you’re not home. I can’t come again. You’ll have to pick it up yourself.”
  • The delivery person leaves the package in the apartment building, and it gets stolen or lost.
  • The delivery person wants to leave the package but cannot find a suitable place.
  • The recipient has a mailbox, but the delivery person doesn’t have the key, and the mailbox is too small for the package.
  • The delivery person does not want to go up to the apartment.
  • The delivery person tries to leave the package with a neighbor, but doesn’t know who is home, and the neighbors are unwilling to accept responsibility.
  • The delivery person wastes time and money, and the recipient also loses time. No one is satisfied.

If a Cargo Locker is Used:

  • When the delivery person arrives, they place the package in the appropriate compartment. A barcode appears on the screen. The delivery person scans the barcode with their mobile app and leaves.
  • In the background, a message is sent from the central system to the recipient, providing information about the location of the package and a code to retrieve it.
  • When the recipient returns home, they go to the cargo locker, enter the code, and retrieve their package.
  • A message is automatically sent to both the recipient and the shipping company, confirming that the package has been picked up.
  • If the package is not picked up within a week, daily reminder messages are sent to the recipient, and after a week, the delivery person can retrieve the package.
